Something passes over her expression as she glances back toward the stadium.

“Tally, is—”

“Right here.” She appears out of nowhere. “Sorry, I wanted to watch the end of the match.”

“You should go watch it, I’ll be fine.”

“No way. I promised you a girls’ night, and that’s what you’re getting. Come on.” She digs her car keys out of her shoulder bag.

“So, I was thinking we should stop at Dessert Island on the way home and get some cake to take with us.”

“Sure, whatever,” I murmur, climbing in her car.

An almighty cheer fills the air and Tally says, “They must have won.”

“Probably.”

Abigail and Tally share another look.

“I’m fine,” I mutter.

“You sound fine.” Tally snorts. “But I’m sure tonight will remedy all that.”

“Tally,” Abigail hisses.

“Abi is right. It might take a little bit more than red velvet cake and fruit cider to pull me out of this mood.”

Tally catches my eye and smirks. “We’ll see.”

“What do you think she’s doing in there?” I ask Abigail as we wait for Tally to collect our order from Dessert Island.

“Maybe there’s a queue.”

“A queue?” I scoff. “We’ve been waiting half an hour.”

“Knowing Tally, she’s getting them to make us something from scratch.”

That makes my lips twitch. I can totally see Tally doing something like that.

“Have you heard from Oakley?” Abigail asks and I shake my head.

“He’ll be in a shower full of naked guys right about now.”

“W-what do you mean?”

“How do you think they all get clean after a match?”

“I guess I’ve never really thought about it. So you’re saying the changing room will be full of naked boys?”

“Do they look like boys to you?” My brow arches and her cheeks flush. “Didn’t think so.”

“What was it like…” She hesitates. “Being with one of them. An Heir, I mean.”

My stomach sinks. It’s the last thing I want to think about, but I humour her. Because something tells me it took a lot of guts for her to ask that.

“Why do you ask?”
