“Damn it,” I muttered.

“What?” Waverly asked.

“Everything’s changing.”

“Buck up, kiddo. That’s life,” she quipped.

“No kidding.” I cocked my head to the side. “You going back to sleep? Or you want to find an old re-run of something to watch?”

“Re-run.” She plopped down onto the couch next to me. “I’m glad Savage bought the TV. And I’m glad you caved and decided to keep it.”

“Yeah, otherwise we’d have to talk to each other.”

“Or play cards.”

“Or backgammon.”

She smiled. “Doesn’t sound so bad.”

“Nah, it doesn’t sound so bad,” I agreed. I flicked on the TV and started surfing.

We landed on theGilmore Girlsepisode where Rory skipped school to visit Jess in New York.

“I kind of hate this episode,” Waverly said.

“Yeah? Why?”

“Because Rory is like, insanely selfish. Missing Lorelai’s graduation to visit a guy who bailed the first moment shit got hard.”

“You’re not supposed to have this much emotion about a TV show.”

“Um, that’sexactlywhat you’re supposed to have about a TV show. Come on, you totally agree with me.”

“I stand behind my statement that Jess, the second time around, was her soul mate.”

“She should’ve married Logan.”

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders and tugged her toward me. “You’re the best. You know that?”

“How am I the best?” she asked with a smile.

I paused, pensive for a moment. “I didn’t know if we’d get here, you know?”

“Here, where? WatchingGilmore Girlsre-runs on a school night?”

“No.Happy.”

“Happy,” she repeated. “Yeah. Like really, really happy, right?”

“Really, really happy.”

We fell into silence, our eyes glued to the screen. When the episode was over, I looked at Waverly. “You should probably go to bed.”

“Yeah, I probably should…”

I bit my lip. “One more episode?”

She grinned. “One more.”
