I sit by myself and nurse the last bit of my second Journeyman. Did she leave? Will she join me? Do I want her to join me?

Fuck, yes, I do.

Just then, I feel a light touch on my shoulder. I turn and look up into the most gorgeous face.

“Hey, Theo.”

I clear my throat. “Cassie.”

“Did your friend leave?” She walks toward his empty seat.

“Hopefully. Join me.” I motion to the chair. She slides into it effortlessly.

“Thanks for the drink.”

“Charlie sent it.”

Her knowing smile hooks me. “Oh, well, you’ll have to tell him I said thank you.”

“Were you on a date?” I swirl my tumbler, staring at her.

Her lips quirk. “I was until two handsome men sent me a drink.”

“You looked bored.”

“I may have been.” She sets her forearms onto the table, leaning toward me.

“First date?” I ask.

She sighs. “No, I’ve been seeing Alan for a few months now.”

Disappointed, I keep my face neutral. “Ah, so it’s serious.”

And this joker didn’t come to have words with me? Didn’t sweep her out of here before the condensation formed on the glass?

She shakes her head, a sort of confused look on her face as she studies me. “No, not yet.”

I need to know before I let this go any further. “Do you want it to be?”

Her bright eyes bore into mine and I wouldn’t look away right now if I even wanted to. “No, not with him.”

Fuck me.

“You want another drink?” My voice is gravelly with the promise of where I want this night to go now that I know she’s not with the man she came here with tonight.

“I’d love one.” Her voice is just a tad shaky.

I nod once, clear my throat, and wave down the server.
