Chapter 18

Sophie

I can’t believe that Cahill has decided to bring his mam and sister home for the launch of the casino. Now I am super nervous. Everything needs to be perfect. I know last night Cahill really helped me relax by working his magic tongue on me, but now it’s the morning, and I am stressed to the hilt again. Jones has come with me today to help with final touches in the bar and kitchen, he is an expert at these things. I also know he has to watch me too.

Ruairi has been floating about giving orders to whoever he thinks should be doing something, and I follow behind him undoing his orders because they aren’t correct or my way, soon Ruairi will twig on.

The flowers and red carpet have arrived, we have a section outside within red rope for our hired photographer to get the best snaps just inside the entrance, and the press will be here too tomorrow night and have an area reserved just or them to take pictures of guests arriving.

I have an interview scheduled during the opening. I have run through the questions and answers, I know them like the back of my hand, but I’m still worried I will fuck up. My saving grace is the press girl, Wren Wells; she is young, really helpful, and this is her big night too, so we both don’t want to fuck up.

On top of the interview, I need to give a speech. Wren, Ruairi, Cahill and I plan for me to read it out at dinner before the main course is served. It’s short and sweet. I honestly don’t think there is anything more I can do. I have been here for hours, and I need to go back home to get ready for tonight and I know Jones needs to make it, so I go to find him.

I am making my way toward the kitchen with bag in hand when I overhear Jones and Ruairi talking.

“What do you meanyouhave lost him?” Jones asks, he sounds short.

“Ididn’t fucking lose him! He, the fecking eejit, has taken off. His ma died two weeks ago. He didn’t tell anyone. Something is going on,” Ruairi replied, he sounded a bit touchy.

“No shit,Sherlock. I just don’t know why he has such a hard on for Soph. She has done nothing to him. Do you think there is more to it?” Jones asked.

“Has to be. But we need to keep our eyes and ears peeled, just in case the rat shows up. Cahill is outta his mind over there. If anything happened to her, he won't survive, nor will we,” Ruairi says, sounding convinced.

What the hell is going on? Who is lost? Whose Mother died? And why are they after me? Is it the guy that tried to kidnap me outside the café? I put my smile back on and walk through the doors.

“There’s the brains behind this operation. Ready to go dear?” Jones smiles at me.

“I have a fucking brain too!” Ruairi snaps back.

“Yes, you do, Viking. Take me home, Jones.” I laugh and so does Jones, Ruairi smirks because he knows I’m messing with him, none of this would have happened if it weren’t for him.

Jones and I head home. I run to get washed and changed. Just as I am putting on my shoes Cahill bounces in looking all casual in jeans and t-shirt. I love him like this, he is more boyish and fun, the suit makes him look too serious and scary. I smile up at him. “Can I help you, sir?” I purr.

“Keep talking like that, doll, and we won’t make it to dinner, and you can explain to Mam why she didn’t get to meet ya.” He smirks back with his eyebrow raised. I just roll my eyes at him. He had me last night, and he can take tonight off. I can’t help but giggle out loud.

“What’s so funny?”

“Ooo, nothing. Did you want something?” I ask as I stand up to straighten out my skirt.

“No, no, just you. Ready?” I smile and nod, because I don’t think I will ever be ready. I am wearing a pink glittery long skirt, with a white top that has a winking eye on it, and sandals. I left my hair down in soft curls, put a little make up on, and my glasses are on, my eyes need a rest from the contacts.

“You look stunning, a little geeky, but I know my mam and sis will love you. Nothing to fear.” Cahill smiles so bright at me. I wish I had his confidence. He grabs my hand and pulls me in close for a panty-dropping kiss that makes me not want to leave the room. Now it’s Cahill’s turn to smirk and giggle at me, the tease.

We walk into the dining room. His mother is a beauty, a small dark-haired woman with the brightest red lipstick on, gold chunky jewelry, and a pale green dress. She is beaming up at me.

“Ah, you must be the lovely Sophie. I have heard nothing about you as my son doesn’t tell me anything. We will change that,” she says smiling at Cahill as he rolls his eyes. I can see he was a little rascal when he was younger.

“Of course, Mrs. Traynor. We will get to know each other better. But I am very boring and plain, I might disappoint you,” I reply shyly. I was never good at selling myself. I don’t see what people see in me.

“Listen here, missy, less of the Mrs. Traynor, it’s Mam. And you must be some catch if my son is letting us meet ya,” she laughs.

I take a seat across from her and I am blushing so much. Cahill whispers in my ear,

“You know what your blush does to me. I can’t wait to get you to bed after this dinner. Be careful what you say, it might result in punishment.”

His eyes are twinkling, like a little challenge and he has me squirm in my seat. This is so embarrassing.

“Hey, I’m Aoife. How are ya? I love your skirt. You will have to tell me where you got it after dinner. And I am loving this pink gin, I never had it before, but Cahill told me you love it, so I thought I would try. I’m sorry, I tend to talk too much.” Aoife is laughing at herself.
