The room disappeared and was replaced with the silver of the ship.

“How’s things, Weresh?” Ryon greeted the man behind the console across the room.

“Same old, same old. You?”

“The usual. Urgoth expecting us?”

Weresh’s face changed. “Yeah. And he’spissedabout something.”

“He’s always got a bee in his bonnet,” I remarked.

“No, this is different. He smashed up his office earlier. I’m glad you’re going in with her, I wouldn’t want to leave him alone with an omega in this mood.”

A chill ran down my spine. Whatever Urgoth was upset about, it couldn’t be anything I’d done, could it? I looked to Ryon for reassurance.

“I can handle Urgoth,” he said quietly, and walked to the door. I followed behind him, definitely not wanting to go first.

Urgoth’s office was still a mess. Metal tech was broken and strewn around the room. A couple of the walls were dented. A light dangled from the ceiling where it had been ripped from its socket and only a bare wire was left where the security camera had once been.

In the middle of the chaos, Urgoth sat behind his desk, which was now cracked in half.

“What thefuckdid you do, Ryon? Your biodata uploaded from your watch this morning. Your heart rate and endorphin levels... you fucked her, yesterday! Do you know how stupid you are?” he demanded, launching himself at my alpha.

They got into a scuffle, kicking and punching one another, and I fled the room. Running further along the corridor, I ran into the next room I found.

The medical bay. Doctor Kavat looked up from a tablet and raised his brows when he saw me.

“Are you lost?”

I shook my head. “Ryon and Urgoth are kicking the shit out of each other.”

Kavat put his tablet down, picked up a small handheld device and left. I followed, not wanting to be away from Ryon.

The doctor walked into Urgoth’s office, took stock of the situation, and pressed his device against Urgoth’s cheek. Immediately, the angry alpha went floppy. Ryon pushed Urgoth off him and stood up, dusting himself off.

“What thefuckwas that about?” Ryon asked.

Kavat shook his head. “I have no idea.”

“What did you do to me?” Urgoth slurred from the floor.

“I gave you a muscle relaxant. Maybe I’ll reverse it if you can calm down. If not, I’ll give you another one. And then yourinternalmuscles will relax. So I hope you’re wearing brown underpants.”

I was surprised at how easily the doctor was handling this, and how neither he nor Ryon let Urgoth intimidate them despite his best efforts.

“Why did you attack me?” Ryon demanded.

Urgoth glared at me. I frowned, not knowing why he was so angry.

“You knotted with her!” His voice got louder but then faded into a croaky growl.

“Yeah. I did. There’s no law that says I can’t. And nothing you can do to prevent that, no matter what implants you give her.”

Kavat frowned and looked from me, to Ryon, to Urgoth, before finally asking, “What implants?”

“The ones you gave her!” Ryon replied.
