The silence around us is now deafening.

My skin prickles with fear that we will be caught. Were we loud? Fuck, I can’t remember.

It’s like I blacked out, focusing only on him—on the pleasure he brought me.

My grandmother wouldn’t hesitate to end my life if she caught us in here.

How could we be so foolish? This would be the perfect opportunity for her to get me out of the picture. I just hope she didn’t hear us.

My heart is racing, regret pouring over me.

How could I be so reckless? I let lust and stupidity get the best of me.

Tristan pushes himself off the ground to stand before me.

It’s so dark I can’t make out his face.

“Are you okay, little bird? You’re shaking,” he asks, running his hands up my arms.

The touch of his skin against mine sends another flood of heat to my system.

What have we done?

How could I let this go so far?

My virtue is not something I’ve held on a pedestal, but my father did, and the kingdom still does.

Without it, I’ll never be able to marry.

Without it, my brother’s plans for me to marry King Naveen will fall to the wayside.

Then it hits me like a ton of bricks just as the thought crosses my mind.

No man or king will want me if I no longer have my virtue.

“Tristan,” I whisper in the dark.

“Princess,” he responds, nervously, pressing his body against mine.

“I need you.”

“I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere,” he says softly, kissing my cheek.

“I need more of you.” My hand slides down, cupping his manhood. He freezes. “I want to feel you inside of me. Every inch of you, filling me up.” Tristan quickly steps back, shocked by my words.

“Princess, I can’t.”

I step forward, pulling him closer to me. “Please, Tristan. I beg you. If you don’t take it, then just kill me now,” I cry. “I refuse to be a pawn in my brother’s game. He will use me any way he sees fit, and I can’t let that happen. We can stop him, together. No man will touch me once you’ve taken me for yourself.”

He lets out a heavy breath. “What you’re asking me is insane, Princess! I cannot break my vow. I won’t take your innocence. What you are asking for is a death sentence for both of us, and I will not do it. I’ll find another way. I promise you.”

“But we just—” he cuts me off with a kiss.

“I took your pleasure, not your virtue, little bird.”

My chest seizes with panic.

“You took both.”
